Year 7 completed their transition to the JLV with a weekend of adventure and challenge at our sixth annual outdoor activities residential at Dukeshouse Wood near Hexham.
40 staff and 280 students tackled 16 different activities over 3 days at the end of October. Once again our students were praised for their behaviour and attitude by the Dukeshouse Wood staff.
The ever-popular high ropes challenges such as climbing, abseiling, leap of faith and Jacob’s ladder required skill and determination. Bravery was on display during the adrenaline of the 3G swing and zip wire, whilst problem solving, fire lighting and shelter building brought out the best in teamwork and resilience.
Students were thrilled by the opportunity to take part. Jacob said, “The activities were brilliant and I really liked getting to know my teachers.”
Sarah said, “My group was amazing. We didn’t know each other very well at first, but by the second day we were working well together. Everyone helped each other to do the best they could, even when the challenges were tough.”
Miss McVay’s team won the most points and they were rewarded with a pizza party at school! There were also 20 ‘stars of the weekend’ who were singled out for special praise.
